Finally got out of Watergate Street, Deptford after struggling with an ancient valliant boiler: down at heel is not the word.. 2 things occur 2 me; 1st - what it must have bin like in Marlowe's day and 2nd - what is a watergate? Answers on a postcard pls..

Watergate, defn: A gate leading to water either a river or sea. Used as means of supplying castles, e.g. with goods brought by water transport
